TMJ Arthritis
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) occurs when the joint (TMJ) or jaw joints on both sides of the head to be misaligned. These jaw joints located in front of the ears are a ball and socket design that allows people to yawn, chew and speak. Misaligned jaw joints may be a condition ranging from temporary discomfort to permanent severe pain.
Many people use both ATM and ATM acronyms to describe pain in the joints of the jaw. Other common terms for These disorders include myofascial pain disorder (MPD) and Craniomandibular Joint Disorder. It is estimated that 60 million people of all ages with Symptoms of TMD agreement on a regular basis.
Causes of TMD / TMJ
Extreme tension in muscles a person of ability to control yawning, chewing and talking can lead to TMD.
· Severe trauma or head injury, jaw, or temporomandibular joints
· Grinding or clenching teeth at night (bruxism)
· Irregular or misaligned bite (malocclusion)
· Heritage
· Disc displaced jaw
· Mental or physical stress
Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in the temporomandibular joint
· Viral infections such as mumps and measles
Doctors and neuromuscular dentists are divided on whether or not certain actions, such as excessive nail biting or chewing gum can cause TMD. It has even been suggested that Repetitive, constant movements such as holding a phone to your ear with one shoulder can cause TMD, but this is not substantiated.
