The disease of the temporomandibular jaw or TMJ, is a broad term for a collection of conditions of the mandible is characterized by pain in the face, jaw and teeth, and limitations in jaw movement. While not all causes are known, research has shown that ATM can be caused by a injury to the jaw area, arthritis, dental procedures, infections, autoimmune diseases, dislocation of the jaw or teeth milling.
Symptoms

Research indicates that women seeking treatment for TMJ at a higher rate than men and that women are more likely than men to report ongoing pain associated with TMJ. This may explain why more women tend to suffer the symptoms and seek help for TMJ pain.

Treatment
Research has shown that the underlying conditions that cause the ATM are structural, biochemical or emotional. The structural element is the result of the shape of the jaw opens and closes. In addressing the imbalances of the bite or jaw position, the structural problem is resolved and relief of pain and stress and stress that comes with the help of biochemical and emotional elements.
