Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) occurs when the joint (TMJ) or jaw joints on both sides of the head to be misaligned. Although TMJ is a serious disease that affects thousands of people today, only a limited number of these people are aware that they have the condition. Sometimes the condition may be so mild that it escapes notice. At other times, the person may have a serious symptom of ATM, but do not know, because of misdiagnosis. What may be considered a serious symptom of TMJ?

Symptoms

There are many symptoms of TMJ and different individuals may experienced some varying degrees. A severe TMJ symptom however, may not only cause considerable pain, but can also result in other physical conditions. Here are some symptoms:

- One of the common symptoms of TMJ is a severe headache. It is possible that this particular symptom is a type of referred pain which is the result of pressure on the joints of the jaw. Some people may experience terrible headaches, but unfortunately can not get the treatment suitable. This is due to a TMJ headache can sometimes be misdiagnosed as migraine or some other type of headache.

- Another condition ATM also include severe facial pain and pain areas near the ears, back, neck and shoulders. Sometimes, part of the face may begin to swell.
