tmj disorder

Most of us can go through our life without thinking too much on the smaller parts of our body that we use all the time. One piece is the temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) or joint that helps your jaw movement. Most of us do not spend much time (if at any time at all) thinking about this. In fact most of us do not start thinking about our bodies until something starts to hurt. Of course, once something starts to hurt, then it is all that we tend to think. The same applies to the irritation of the temporomandibular joint. And when that happens, you may need to see a doctor for TMJ diagnosis and treatment. A professional diagnosis is the best way to find out what is really the problem and treat it appropriately.

Disorders ATM and problems affect roughly ten percent of the population at least once in their life. Usually, however, is a small problem that is easily can be cured with some preventative treatments. Sometimes, unfortunately, the problems that occur due to serious disorders of the jaw and occasionally these problems require surgery corrective. The good news is that this only happens with a very small percentage of people experiencing problems with their ATMs.

One of the best ways to ensure that you are able to properly treat an illness ATM is to recognize the symptoms associated with it and know when to consult your doctor and dentist. While pain can be located in the actual joint, it may radiate to other places on the face and to the ear. Some people hear clicking while chewing or talking but that's not a definite symptom of a TMJ disorder. Sometimes it can also cause headaches or the bite of an irregular (which can cause problems with chewing).

When you visit your doctor and dentist that was diagnosed with TMJ, you will go through a series of tests. Your doctor will start by having to move the jaw in different directions, while he or she listens for any noises and the sense of wonder that any movement could be set doing. Some doctors and dentists will examine your bite to have to bite a piece of wax. This will help you see how your teeth meet when biting. Finally, we could make a series of x-rays or other procedures that will help them see exactly as stated in the jaw and identify any issues that might contribute to the disorder ATM.

Usually, these disorders are easily treated with simple stress management. This is because most are caused by repetitive motion, such as chewing or grinding of teeth. You might also need some dental or orthodontic treatment to solve problems and treat the disorder. There are also some other resources that are available to solve the problem on its own that have proven effective and less costly. Whatever your treatment plans, remember that all treatment you do is increase the health of the TMJ joint.

ATM (and TMD) represent a temporomandibular joint disorder. This is the jaw joint, which can be felt if you place a finger in front of an ear and open your mouth. This articulation sensitive that it can be removed or slowly out of the lineup. Then a variety of uncomfortable symptoms and pain may arise:

· Clicking noises in the jaw

Headache strong

· Jaw-pain joint

Facial pain ·

* Reduced mobility of the mandible

Sore throat and shoulder

Sore ear

· Ringing ears

These are just some of the symptoms TMD and each patient's unique combination of symptoms, with unusual gravity relative. Some people are resigned to a life of these painful symptoms, after have many doctors and tried many medications to no effect. But if the symptoms have a dental cause, you should consult a dentist, including a dentist neuromuscular.

Neuromuscular Dentistry

Neuromuscular Dentistry and puts bite reorganizes to the articulation of the mandible in its ideal position. When this is done, TMJ symptoms are usually relieved. There is a complex relationship between articulation of the mandible and its associated structures (muscles, nerves, blood supply etc.) To be able to correctly diagnose and treat TMJ, a dentist needs postgraduate training, as offered in the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI).

This world-renowned school provides intensive theoretical and practical training in both cosmetic dentistry and neuromuscular dentistry. With this detailed knowledge, and special diagnostic tools, a href = "http://www.aestheticdentalstudio.ca/tens.html"> experienced neuromuscular dentist can tell if their symptoms have a dental cause, and if they do, they can treat them and their underlying conditions.

Causes of TMJ

The causes are not fully understood. The set itself is a ball and socket joint with a pad of cartilage that cushions the bones. Can be removed from the lineup with an impact on one side of the head, as you can get in a car or sports accident. In some cases it is caused, or at least aggravated by the habit of gnashing of teeth. Alternatively, teeth grinding can be a symptom of TMJ.

Other causes contributing are arthritis, birth injuries, and genetic conditions.

The jaw joints are operated by muscles attached to bones by tendons. The major nerves running through the area with many branches, which extends even to the toes. Bones, tendons, muscles and nerves are fed a blood supply. When the joint is misaligned, and upper and lower teeth come together in a wrong way, hit or rub against each other, the muscles jaw trying to correct this situation. Over time, they get chronically tense, inflamed and swollen. Swelling puts pressure on nerves, which gives Nerve pain is that whenever.

Factors that may exacerbate TMJ

· Clenched teeth

· Teeth grinding

Inability to relax

Lack of sleep

• The bad food

· Poor posture

Stress ·

TMJ Treatment

Dental diagnosis ATM uses specialized equipment such as the K7 Evaluation System. It records the sounds of the jaw joint, measures the movement of the mandible, however tiny, and diagrams of muscle activity.

Use of a TENS unit (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) relax muscles and relieve pain. This new dentist relaxed position gives information about the direction of treatment, because the goal is to make this position Standing relaxed. By studying the detailed information collected by the system of K7, a treatment plan is customized for you.

Your treatment will address the exact condition of the jaw joint, teeth and gums and even taking into account their personality and lifestyle. A neuromuscular dentist will focus on correcting the bite and can work with you on some issues of lifestyle.

Possible treatment measures are:

• A device worn at night to prevent teeth grinding

• A orthosis use all the time for a few months to retrain the muscles of the jaw

· Remodeling, relocation or reconstruction of some teeth

· Anti-inflammatory medication

· Temporary diet changes to avoid chewing hard foods or

· Use in the home of a unit TENS

· Heat or cold treatments to relax muscles and relieve pain

• The work on posture

In some cases, a massage therapist or a counselor or doctor may participate in treatment.

It's hard to believe that many problems may come from a joint in the body, but that's why neuromuscular dentistry is so important. Once the jaw joint in place and the bite is realigned, many if not all, of these symptoms disappear.
